The Virginia Living Museum

One day in June we checked out the Virginia Living Museum in Norfolk, VA. It was a lot of fun. The girls are very into caterpillars and butterflies and they had a really neat exhibit that talked all about the life cycle of the butterfly as well as a butterfly garden. Eliza was really good at getting them to land on her.

For Eliza's birthday she had planned to go ice skating for months. Her cousins and grandparents were able to come down and we all had a blast.

So all of our medical and dental school friends who had been in our ward with us all four years left the end of May or soon after. We had a great four years and miss them. We got to go down one day and hang out at the beach house they had rented.

We had a great Easter weekend which also included the easter egg hunt at Maymont and the Barnum and Bailey Circus. It was awesome. The girls still talk about it and loved playing circus for the months that followed.

Lydia is turning 3!!

So this is far from an update, my blogging has gone from poor to pathetic. Someday I will catch up, but in the meantime Lydia turns 3 tomorrow!! She is such a joy and blessing in our lives. Lydia loves to make people laugh and she is good at it. She keeps up well with her big sister, and sometimes it is hard to tell they are over 2 years apart in age because she plays so well with Eliza. Lydia loves to draw and color pictures and spends a good portion of her time doing so. She loves to play house with Eliza, and loves taking care of babies. She has always loved real babies too, and is very gentle and careful. She loves learning and reading books. Lately she has been saying, "let me tell you a story...." Or "do you want to hear my story, " followed by various narratives. She likes to be my helper girl, and help wipe things off. She is a great sister, and often tries to help if Eliza is upset or sad. We are so grateful to have her in our family! Happy Birthday Lydia!

Eliza is 5!!

Her birthday was this past Wednesday. We can't believe how fast the time has gone. We love our Liza Jane. She is fun, inquisitive, imaginative, sweet, a good helper and such a great big sister. She loves bugs and animals and climbing trees. She spends a lot of time each day drawing, writing, and creating anything and everything. We can't wait to see what each day will bring! Liza we LOVE you!!

Spring Break Trip to the Outer Banks

We went for half a week in March to the beach in North Carolina. We spent some great time playing on the beach, went to the outlet mall and also visited the aquarium. Eliza spent over a half an hour petting sting rays and ended up soaking wet. She loves animals. Justin took all these with his i-phone, hence, he is in only one. He also has this app for editing photos, so he made some cool changes to some.

These two are actually on the campus of Barton College in Wilson, North Carolina where Justin will be teaching this fall.

We Are MOVING!

In case you haven't heard, since I am a negligent blogger, we are moving in July to Wilson, North Carolina. Justin will be teaching at Barton College. I had been waiting to post pictures of our house till we closed this past Friday. We are very excited. Justin grew up remodeling houses so we were looking for a house we could put some work into. The girls and I saw it in person for the first time Friday. It is a the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, with woods and a stream in the back. Our new neighbor told us that there are often deer and a neighborhood fox. We are super excited. We will be going down to work on it most weekends from now till we move in the middle of July. I will post some before and after pictures of the inside. We are sad to be leaving Richmond, where we have loved life the last four years, but excited to be staying closeby, just over 2 hrs away.

A House Full of Girls

The week after Christmas Justin's cousin Eric, wife Andy, and their girls Ruth, Sadie, and baby May came to visit. We had so much fun! Ruth and Sadie are 4 and 2 so their ages matched right up. There were hours of dress-up and dancing. We had great weather and took a trip to Maymont to feed the goats, and spent a day at the Children's museums. For the adults we sent fun nights talking and playing cards. Also while they were here we went up to Kara and Todd's to bless baby Marrin. She is so sweet and the little girls couldn't get enough. We were sad to see Eric and Andy go, but since they are just 8hrs away in Georgia, hopefully we can go down to visit soon.

Christmas 2010

We had a great Christmas season. We stuck around Virginia so we actually got out our decorations and got a tree and the girls loved it. They were at such fun ages this year. They played with all the music decorations for the first week and spent hours perched on the piano playing with the nativity. All month we did an advent calendar from the Friend magazine where we got to put an ornament on a paper tree and read a scripture they loved doing it every night. The week before Christmas my parents and little sister came out and we all spent the week in Williamsburg. It was so fun. We did some relaxing, spent a couple days in Colonial Williamsburg, and an evening at Busch Garden's Chrismastown. It was all amazing. I knew my mom and Katie were taking a lot of pictures so I slacked off, I need to get some copies. Aunt Katie taught the girls, "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas," and they sang it everywhere we went. It was so much fun having them here, we were sad they had to go. They left Christmas Eve and we came back to Richmond. It was fun to actually be at our own house for Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. The girls were so excited and had so much fun.

Thanksgiving 2010

We had a fabulous Thanksgiving in Omaha with all of my family. For the actual meal we went to this neat lodge, some of their family friends came too. We were there for a week, but I managed to take almost no pictures. The girls have so much fun playing with their cousins. Eliza and Lydia refer to Nate and Allie's house as their "other house." We miss them!

The time has come again…Thanksgiving is over and Christmas is looming ever nearer. The clock is ticking down and my holiday to do list keeps growing. It is so nice to have already decided on Shutterfly for this year’s Christmas card. I love all their fabulous backgrounds and collage configurations. I am still trying to decide whether I want to do one larger picture or a group of smaller ones, but I know with all the options Shutterfly has to offer my pictures will end up looking awesome. I have bought photo cards from them before and my photos looked great, not to mention their website was easy to use and it was easy edit and fit my photos in to make them look their best. We had a little Halloween party for preschool. All the girls were ballerinas.

We took our little preschool group on a field trip to the pumpkin patch. A few extra friends for our neighborhood were also able to come. The kids had a great time.

Omaha...Somewhere In Middle America

In October the girls and I got so spend ten fabulous days with my brother Nathan, sister-in-law Allie, Austin, Olivia, and adorable new baby Pierce. The first couple days my dad was also there for Pierce's blessing. The rest of the time was packed with trips to the zoo and pumpkin patch, we went to their learning center and an indoor swimming pool. In between we went to great parks and spent hours playing in the backyard and with all their fun toys. The kids had a blast and I had so much fun hanging out with Allie all day and holding Pierce. It was hard to leave. Good thing we are headed back to meet my parents and sister there for Thanksgiving. We can't wait!!!

September Fun

These first four pictures are just from a fun fall day at the park.

We spent two weekends in a row up with Susan and JA and Kara's family because Susan and JA were leaving on a mission to Peru. We had so much fun and miss having them so close, but are so excited to hear all about their mission. What great missionaries they will be.

We went to a beautiful park that is on the Potomic River.

This was their first day of preschool. We have a little one with their friends Jayden, and Milah. The mom's just trade weeks. It has been really fun and the girls love going together.

For Lydia's birthday we started off the day at Crump Park with our friends Kim and Milah. Then we had a little family party when Justin got home. Lydia's friend Beck stopped by for a cupcake. After, we left for a campout with our friends the Laytons. The campground has a fun water park we went to the next day. Sorry the pics are as always in reverse order. It was a fun day. We can't believe she is so big. She is such a sweet girl and we love having her in our family!!

Justin ran a half marathon in August. He did great and got the time he wanted.

The girl were being "Handy Manny Girls," fixing stuff.

We had a great trip out west in August. The girls and I spent a week in Idaho and then Justin flew in and we drove up to Spokane for the big Lee reunion.

For the Lee Reunion we went camping at a boy scout camp Camp Baird. We were right on a lake, and with cousins galore we had a blast.

We got to spend an extra couple days with Brian, Michelle, and Carter before the reunion started. We had so much fun. We miss them!!

We spent on night in Spokane with our good friends the Hatches.

While we were in Idaho my grandparents and Aunts Liz and Mindy and my Uncle Rich all came up. It was so fun to spend time with them all.

Lydia is 2!!

We can't believe Lydia turned 2 on Friday! She is such a joy to our family! She never ceases to amaze us. She decided she wanted to be potty trained a couple months ago, and has done really well. She expresses herself very well. The other day she wanted a dress on and then said, "Look, I'm a princess." She is such a sweet girl and often comes up and says, "I love you mommy, so much." She loves to imagine and play pretend with her big sister. They are such good little buddies. As soon as Lydia wakes up she says, "where's Liza,'' and Eliza always comes in and asks if Lydia is awake because she wants to play with her. We are so grateful for Lydia!

More Fun Times with Good Friends

Along with our neighbors the Ruckers two other families that were great friends finished dental school: the Millburns and Shermans. We spent a lot of fun times together the last three years and we miss them. They both had little girls Eliza's age and we miss playing with them. We got to take both Skye and Avery on separate trips with us to the children's museum, but I forgot my camera when we took Avery so here are some with the girls and Skye.

Justin's cousin Nick just finished law school at the University of Virginia. They moved out when we did so it was great having him and his wife Nadine and their family only an hour away the last 3 years. They come to Richmond one last time and we went down to Belle Isle. It was great. They have moved on to Dallas and we will miss them!

Our Princess Eliza is 4!! I can't believe it. It really does seem so old. She is such a joy to our family. She is a wonderful big sister, and is so patient with Lydia. We spent a couple days up with Grandma Lee and Grandpa JA. They moved back up near to Washington D.C. We played at the park near their house on Friday. Saturday morning we went up and met Kara at a swap at a nearby Stake Center. We found some good stuff. Then we headed into the Smithsonian of American History. We got to see the First Lady Dresses and the Abraham Lincoln exhibit. They also had a few cool kid exhibits to keep the little people happy. It was a great time! Princess Party

Eliza got invited to her friend's princess birthday party. All day she kept asking if it was time to get dressed up. So finally two hours before we started She brought home some sticker earrings and shared with everyone, including Justin. He looked awesome.

Boston

We got to spend five fabulous days in Boston with my parents and sister Katie. It was amazing. We did the freedom trail, went on the duck tours, saw a Celtics game, did a tour of Fenway Park, saw Harvard, visited Concord and spent great time with Papa, Lulu, and Aunt Kate. We also saw the ducks in the Public Gardens from the book "Make Way For Ducklings," and went to the Boston Children's Museum; and somehow all are pictures are from those two locations, except for the one with the cute new umbrellas (thanks Grandma and Grandpa) I think Katie and my Mom took a lot more we will have to get. We loved Boston. It was a beautiful city and we loved the public transport. Thanks so much Mom and Dad for the great trip! I highly recommend this trip to everyone.

Easter

We had lovely Easter weekend. My Aunt Liz, Uncle Kelly, and cousin Braden came out from Utah for a week and we spent the weekend watching conference and exploring Richmond. For Easter celebrations there was a ward Easter egg hunt and a visit from the Easter bunny. My aunt gave them these cute bunny ear clips, which they loved. Eliza is very interested in the Easter Bunny and still talks about him even though I didn't even take the girls to see him. The other day she said that she wants to be the Easter bunny when she grows up. Her other life long aspiration is to be a beautiful butterfly. She asked when she would be old enough to turn into one....I'm so glad she has started setting goals so early in life.

Spring Break

We spent spring break at the Outer Banks in North Carolina with a bunch of families from out ward. It was a little cold, but warmed up at the end of the week. We had a blast playing with friends and had fun getting to know everyone better. Every night we would put the kids the bed and stay up late playing games. The kids always had someone to play with and we had a great time at the nearby sand dunes.

Outer Banks, North Carolina

We had so much fun with all my family at the Outer Banks. It was seriously the good life and it was the off season so it was at a great price. We'd walk to the beach, swim in the pool, walk to the town of Duck and in the evenings we could put the kids to bed and hang out. The kids had so much fun together, we can't wait until Christmas!

Cousins and King's Dominion

My family all came out in September to go to the Outer Banks. First they came to Richmond for a couple days before we drove down and we spent one day at King's Dominion. We all had fun, but the kids definitely had the most fun riding the rides with each other. Plus the adults don't look as cute driving little cars, hence no pictures of adults. We had a nice little party on the afternoon of Lydia's birthday, back on the 3rd of September between Justin taking a test and going to study for the next one. We still can't believe she's so old. She is saying so many things and climbing on everything. She is so much fun!

August

We had a great August, although Justin is very glad it is over. He spent the majority of it studying when he wasn't at work or teaching. But we are happy to say he has taken his comprehensive exams!! They are not officially over until he completes orals at the beginning of October, but the hard part is behind him and we are so proud of him! He studied very hard and we know he did a great job. We are so grateful for his hard work.

The highlight of the rest of August was a visit from Justin's younger brother Brian, wife Michelle, and cute new baby Carter. They were here just over three days, and it was not nearly enough time. They spent a night in Richmond, during which we stayed up way to late playing Wii and visited Jamestown. Then we headed up to DC to Justin's sister, Kara, and Mom's house where we spent the next couple days. We are so glad they came out. We had so much fun and can't wait till we see them again.

We also enjoyed a great deal of time at our pool and playing with friends and cousins. We are sad to see summer go, but excited for fall.

I can't believe it has been a year. She has been such a joy in our lives. She is such a go getter and like Eliza said, "she is crazy and awesome!" (after she had climbed onto the piano bench). During her awake hours she is usually very happy and I once had a repair man say in response to her smiling face, "I'd give all the tea in China to be that happy." She is very friendly and will let most people hold her. She walks for the shear joy of it, laking laps around the house. She loves babies and wants to carry them all around, real or pretend. We love her!!! Happy Birthday Lydia!!

Trip Home

Well the girls and I had a great trip back to Utah and Idaho. We were able to see all my extended family in Utah, for my cousin Aaron's mission farewell and my grandpa's 85th birthday. It was so fun to see everyone!!

Then we headed up to Idaho with my brother's wife Allie and her two kids, Olivia and Austin. We had a great week with lots of cousin fun! It was so nice to have grandparents and aunts and cousins to play with along with a dog and a great backyard. We also got to go jet skiing!! It was so fun to watch the kids interact and play together. Eliza and Austin are at such a fun age, and really enjoyed each other. Thanks Mom and Dad and Aunt Katie for being such great hosts!!

On our way out we also stopped in Boise for a day and night to see Justin's brother Christopher and sister Shannon and their families. It was so great to see them and we wish we had been able to stay longer. (My camera was inaccessible for this leg of the trip:( )

Fourth of July

We ended up staying in Richmond for the Fourth of July this year because Justin was on call for work. We had a blast! The local botanical gardens had free admission so we started there and then a local park had a huge celebration with a petting zoo, pony rides, skydiving show, etc. all free! Then we had some great friends over for a bbq. It was a fun and busy Fourth of July!

Tomorrow Eliza will be three. I can't believe that time has passed so quickly. How we love this little girl! She has been a true joy. She has made each day new and exciting since her birth, and we are so grateful for her. We love being her parents. Her are a few shots from three short years ago.

Strawberry Pickin'

Last Saturday we made our annual trip to the Chesterfield Berry Farm. It was great!! Thanks again to the Tanners for introducing us to it last year. It is a great place for a wonderful family outing. And the strawberries were incredible, huge and for sure the best we had ever eaten. Sadly they are gone now....we may be going back for more.

This year we made it up to see the beautiful cherry blossoms in Washington D.C. We took a picnic and had a wonderful time.

They had a little petting zoo at our mall. Right after this picture the pony gave Eliza a little bite. She was quite traumatized.

Florida

During the second half of Justin's spring break we were able to meet my parents in Florida where my dad had a meeting. We had a great few days playing on the beach, seeing alligators and enjoying fun grandparents!! Thanks guys!

Raleigh Children's Museum

Over Justin's spring break we took a quick one night trip down to Raleigh, North Carolina. We drove around the Duke and UNC campuses, and drove past the temple, but we ended up spending most of our time at the children's museum there. It was great, we highly recommend it.

Justin's Birthday

Justin's Birthday was on the 17th...the big 28. We had great fun, Justin's mom came down and helped with the preparations. We went out for supplies and let Eliza choose a gift from the dollar store...froggy socks. Eliza may be a future party planner, she knows all the requirements for a good party. She made sure we got candles and party hats and picked out the cake and frosting. She was so excited for Daddy to come home. We had cake and then she helped him unwrap his presents. Then Susan took us out for an incredible dinner at the Kona Grill. Thanks again. All in all I think it was a good birthday, and Eliza enjoyed it as much as Justin. We love you Justin/Daddy and are so grateful for all you do for us.
